For the price of less than $50, Holy Stone HS170 is positioned as a “toy” for the grown-ups. It doesn’t even quality as a drone as far as FAA regulation is concerned. FAA registration is required for drones that weight more than .55 lbs.
It also doesn’t include a camera or any mounting point to which you can attache a camera. For this reason it is only recommended to those beginner pilots.
However, if you only want to fly the drone, then this is a perfect entry drone for you. For less then $50, you can barely buy a good toy. Let’s take a look at what makes Holy Stone HS170 a good entry level drone.
Feature Highlight of Holy Stone HS170 Predator
HS170 has a bunch of features that will show a beginner how much fun drones can be.
- headless mode
- one button flip
- tough and solid build
- bulky controller
- short battery life
As you can see, the low price is not without it’s drawbacks. The material and battery quality was limited for this drone. But Holy Stone incorporated some of it’s great flight control features in this drone.
Without this feature, navigating the drone in the air can be difficult. Most of the time you would not know which way is forward because it is so far away from you in the air. With headless mode you can go any direction you like without turning it around.
One Button Flip
Do you now how difficult it is to do a flip using the drone controller? I tried it and I have to say I can’t do it. However, with one button flip feature, you can impress your friends with the press of a button.
There are 3 speed settings that can make your life easier. Use the low setting when you just getting started. High speed setting can be very exciting, but at the same time you need to be very careful. Crashing a drone in to any object you may break it.
The drone is ready to fly out of the box. Making it a perfect gift for young kids.
I have to say I’m impressed by Holy Stone, for squeezing so many features into this tiny drone, at such low price. I have a feeling that you will see many more drones on the street thanks for the likes of HS170.
